  • Muscle mass beats BMI as longevity predictor

    Doctors routinely measure a patients' body mass index or BMI

    and if that weight to high ratio points to obesity, the doctor might prescribe exercise to shud the extra pounds.

    But when it comes to longevity, a focus on weight loss may be misplaced.

    Because a BMI isn't actually a very reliable indicator of life span

    More useful measure, some professions say might be muscle mass.

    Researchers analyze BMI and muscle mass stator more than 36 seniors in a long-term study.

    They tracked seniors have died a decade later.

    Turns out BMI wasn't predicting chance of death. but muscle mass was.

    More muscle meant better odds of survival.

    The study of here is American Journal of Medicine.

    There's no cause and effect here. just correlation for now

    But the study author Pricey Kanthen of UCLA has this recommendation.

    "get up and stop moving. focus on trying to maintain the maximum amount of resistant strain level as you can,

    and stop worrying about dropping calories."

    >> and stop worrying so much about dropping calories."


    Which could take a little weight off of your mind too.
